DECORATION PROJECT

A good cocktail

This project is like a perfect cocktail of two ingredients. The colors of Costa Rica and the classic, welcoming character of Neguri.

A decoration project for a large, unique family that just landed in Bilbao after living in Costa Rica for a long time.

He, an advertising expert, and she, a lover of trinkets and art, found their perfect oasis in the result of this project, where the tropical essence blends with Bilbao tradition to create a cozy atmosphere.

From the lush lands of Costa Rica to the streets of Getxo, we wanted to merge the best of both worlds in this project. We insisted a great deal that the house should reflect those who live there, with their experiences, their memories, and by giving harmony to the whole. A house that can only be for them.

We didn't want to make the perfect house, but rather
a HOME where you walk barefoot, sit
on the floor, improvise, mix, and share.
Here, life is truly lived.
The dwelling is built from a rich and natural mixture.

Plants appear in every room, adding freshness and connecting the house to the tropical essence the family brought with them. Natural raffia wallpaper in the dining room, jute rugs, plant-based fibers, and the use of vibrant colors evoke the light, vegetation, and energy of Costa Rica.

Alongside this tropical inspiration, the project also incorporates an interpretation of the local context. The houses in Neguri have always had a very recognizable British air, inherited from the trade ties between Biscay and the English coast. This imagery appears in the bohemian mix of textiles, the prominence of wallpaper, the more classic furniture pieces, and a cozy, enveloping, and very lived-in atmosphere.

The master bedroom

In the bedroom, color is the main protagonist. Emotion is felt from the very first moment, upon entering a terracotta warmth that envelops the room and transforms it into an intimate, serene refuge full of character.

Materiality has a very physical presence here. Walking barefoot and feeling the stone underfoot connects the space with an almost primitive, natural, and unhurried sensation. The texture of the floor, the presence of the wood, and the depth of the color build a warm, honest, and deeply sensory atmosphere.

Mirrors and reflections appear everywhere, multiplying the light, visually expanding the space, and generating small glints that change throughout the day. Each reflection adds another layer to the room, making the bedroom feel alive, immersive, and full of nuances.

That freedom of blending is precisely what gives the home its character. Nothing seems imposed or overly calculated; everything responds to a cheerful, curious, and deeply personal way of living.

Contrast, surprise, and mixture are the essence of this project, which has been as fun as it has been stimulating.

In this project, inherited family furniture pieces take center stage, repurposed for new uses and, above all, given a new lease on life. A grandmother’s china cabinet finds its place once again, updated with cheerful bird-patterned wallpaper and an integrated light fixture that creates a surprising effect.

Other more contemporary furniture pieces also feature, such as the dining table, coffee tables, and office chair, all designed and crafted in our workshop.

Lighting

Probably the detail that is hardest to appreciate in photographs, and yet one of the most important in the project.

Decorative and technical lighting work as one to achieve a feeling that is both welcoming and functional. Each light point is designed to fulfill a specific function and, above all, to accompany the experience that will take place in each space.

We are interested in ensuring that the light is not uniform, but rather constructs different atmospheres. For example, the Paño textile wall lamps in the living area generate a very warm and enveloping light, almost domestic, that invites you to stay. In the bedroom, the lighting integrated into the millwork niches appears almost by surprise and adds a touch of magic and depth to the space. And in the bathroom, the lighting is not designed solely for looking good in front of the mirror, but also for enjoying the ambiance, where the handcrafted ceramic wall lamps from our own collection provide a much more emotional light.

We believe that good lighting does not necessarily mean more light, but rather knowing what we want to happen at any given moment. In the end, light also tells the story of a home.

The living room

The living room is an oasis for the afternoons...
The carpet muffles the noise that ensues when school lets out.

The colors are a vivid reflection of optimism and "good vibes." Cloth wall lamps warm up the room and frame the large sofa. Studying, painting, watching a movie, playing on the floor... there are so many things that happen there amid laughter, with lighting carefully designed to set the mood.

The breakfast nook

The kitchen breakfast nook becomes a cozy, fun space with a great deal of personality. We have added a wooden bar by the window to create more versatility and allow for enjoying the views of the estuary.

The dining room

The dining room, which breathes a certain colonial air, is the space for great family gatherings, for everyone to come together and for moments of enjoyment. A cheerful dining room very much in line with the spirit that the clients exuded.

Project trivia:

The mural

The mural was born from an image the client had saved in one of her interior design magazines. She often flips through them for pure enjoyment and showed us that photograph of a collage she particularly liked. From the very first moment, we thought it was a beautiful and very personal reference for working on the bedroom.

We proposed scaling it up significantly and turning it into a mural integrated into the space. We liked the idea that she could see it from the bed and that, at the same time, it would serve to conceal the closets and transform a functional solution into a very special gesture.

The process was very artisanal. We were involved not only in the design but also in the realization: we adjusted the composition, defined each color, and worked with a mixture of microcement and water-based paints to achieve a richer, less flat texture.

For us, it is one of those details that summarizes the project very well: a personal reference from the client, reinterpreted with craftsmanship, which ends up becoming an almost scenographic piece within the home.
